Alliance Française

Algebra is a fragmented wooden lattice screen that seems to extend outward from inside the exhibition space of the Alliance Française into the space of the sidewalk. The structures are oriented toward Mecca as a reference to Islamic Art and Architecture. Algebra comes from the Arab word Al-Jabr, which means the reunion of broken parts, to restore. The exhibit speaks to cultural blending in the contemporary world and of identity as a recognition of differences.
